New ASSembly hall and property cost

found out that the land by itself was bought for cash at the tune of $1,250,000.00 - land size is approx 600 feet by 1000 feet - in the desert, small town between two major cities.

Could very well be, but who know what they are including at that price point. Could be taxes, transfer fees, agent fees, legal fees, surveyor fees, etc. but still if the value in the surrounding area is that much lower... It wouldnt be below them to cook the numbers.

Do you remember a the KH rebuild in Vancouver a couple years ago? The property was worth millions, the underground parking lot was something like 1.2, then they actual hall built on top of that was still stupidly expensive. I can accept that the area is expensive and underground parking lots weren't cheap... But damn. They asked all of the surrounding congs to pitch in. We lived 45 mins away, they still asked our hall to pledge a bunch of cash for it. They ended up with way too much money! If I remember correctly they donated the rest to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund.

Pioneers and Their Way of Counting "Time"

in the congregations in my area there was an expression to the effect that 'there's counting time and then there's the way pioneers count their time'.

the watchtower's guidelines were pretty strict on when time could be counted.

some pioneers followed it and others didn't.. on particularly motivated young man comes to mind, he would work full-time or close to it and pioneer.

I used to count time as long as my tie was on.

Now I write whatever number on my report I think will keep the hounders at bay. Almost 3 months now, no actual field circus!

Do you mean dec. 3rd, or march 12th? If its dec. then you signed up here pretty fast after getting baptized.

I agree with the above, could just be the lack of love bombing. That, or they can see that you have learned to think for yourself, and therefore are bad association.

Jehovah's Witnesses - Faith In Action Part 2 - thoughts?

most of us remember the thread last month about the video that was supposed to be watched in prep for discussion at the meeting.

well at the end of this month, there is a discussion on part 2. .

part 1 had at least that one big glaring lie, about what the bible students were expecting in 1914. it then went on in the usual fashion, blaming the students themselves for having made up their own expectations.... .

But SD7, wait! Doesn't persecution mean we're fulfilling prophecy?! Wow, this must truly be God's organization!

I wish they would have lied again. Pointing it out really offended my wife, because the society lying doesn't compute... Therefore I must be lying, wrong, or just have a bad attitude. Poor girl thinks I will see the truth and turn from my evil ways!

Its ok though, family study tomorrow night. She gets to pick the subject, and I help her put scriptures into context and research. Hopefully she will find out for herself that most of the JW doctrine is BS. Wish me luck!

i have no idea what happens to those who take blood transfusions.

this i don't think, is never made clear at the meetings.

do they get disfellowshipped or reproved or is it a conscience matter or what?.

And yes, I believe it's technically a conscience matter for legal reasons of course.

Tis was the first time I had watched it since my wake up, and it was amazing to be able to see right through the BS! It was a great feeling. My wife seemed deeply offended that I would so much as suggest that the video would lie! I didn't get a chance to show her anything from old pubs on the subject unfortunately.

My question is, does anyone know of any such lies or cover ups in this video? I will be watching it soon, and just want to know if there will be anything I might otherwise not notice. My brain still goes on autopilot whenever anything WT related goes on and I don't want to miss a great un-witnessing opportunity.

It has to be tough for an Org. With such a spotted history to make a book or video about their own history without lying, or looking like the fools they are.

Agreed, an updated version would be awesome.

Most of the things they mention in the video as false prophesies, younger generation Dubs have never heard of. I hadn't heard about most of that stuff until my wake up!

Most dubs would avoid a new video, demonize it, or ignore it. But it could get some thinking, and hopefully get more people to ignore them.

this is no laughing matter.

a major cme or flare could wipe out civilization by destroying power grids everywhere.. this is why i get so angry about global warming hysteria - there are far more serious threats that could emerge in months, not decades ahead.. i also understand that a small asteroid is scheduled to come breathtakingly close to hitting earth in two years.
